Simple Macerated Strawberries Recipe

Updated Jun 30, 2023
Macerated strawberries are simple, yet delicious with so many desserts. This also includes recipes using lemon juice, Grand Marnier, and balsamic vinegar to macerate strawberries.

It was years before I knew the technical name for these sweetened strawberries. In my family, that’s all we called them. Macerated wasn’t a cooking term that was used routinely in my house. It still isn’t. Sugared strawberries, sweetened strawberries, or dessert strawberries is more often used than not around here. But, I wanted to be sure to use the correct term for the recipe for sharing with you.
In my family, we make these a few ways, depending on how we plan to use them in a recipe, yet they all begin with the simplest of ingredients and methods.
Macerated Strawberries
Simple Macerated Strawberries are absolutely delicious for so many dishes. They are incredibly easy to make and add such a special touch for everything from breakfast dishes to decadent desserts.
How to Make Macerated Strawberries
Simple Macerated Strawberries Wash, hull and slice strawberries, add sugar and allow them to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, but not so long that they become mush. As simple as it is, that’s the recipe the basic recipe. I make this version all the time. There’s just nothing like sweet strawberries to enhance a dish!
Macerated Strawberries with Grand Marnier or Citrus Juice You can make these delicious strawberries even more special by adding just one more ingredient to the simple strawberry sugar base. Add a splash of Grand Marnier for an extra special touch during the holidays, or a bit of lemon juice or orange juice if you really want to enhance the flavor of a dish with citrus notes, like in a cheesecake .
Macerated Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar Another favorite for me is to use balsamic vinegar. Any balsamic vinegar will do, no need to use the fanciest balsamic vinegar you have in this recipe.

Once you have your macerated strawberries, you can add them to any number of dishes for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.
For breakfast or brunch, use them as a topping on your pancakes or waffles , stuff them into French toast , or pile them onto toasted pound cake or a biscuit with whipped cream. The possibilities are somewhat endless.
For a special dessert, use these atop my Mini New York Cheesecakes , my Strawberry Shortcakes or with my Cream Cheese Poundcake . These delicious macerated strawberries also make a beautiful dessert simply topped with my Perfect Whipped Cream too!

Waffles and pancakes are pretty frequent visitors to our breakfast table. They are always welcome and always disappear in a flash! Since my family loves them so much, I like to keep some of this Buttermilk Waffle and Pancake Mix made ahead and in my pantry. This easy mix makes the most scrumptious, light and fluffy waffles and pancakes. And you can enjoy a hot stack with butter and syrup in just minutes using this!
I’ve also included a helpful (and pretty!) printable recipe label so that you can label your jars of mix for the pantry. This also makes this homemade breakfast staple absolutely perfect to share with a neighbor as a thoughtful handmade gift!
I think once you try this, you’ll definitely want to keep a few batches on hand for busy mornings!
Buttermilk Waffle and Pancake Mix
I don’t know if you feel the same, but I find a hot stack of waffles or pancakes with butter and syrup absolutely comforting and delicious! Throw in some crispy bacon or some scrambled eggs and I’m even happier. But sometimes life is just busy! That’s just one of the reasons I almost always have this waffle and pancake mix made ahead in jars waiting for me in my pantry.
A Great Gift to Share
I know if I find having this mix on hand helpful, that there are so many others that will too. That’s why I think it makes such a thoughtful and practical gift for so many people in your life. Teachers, neighbors, friends, elderly family members or neighbors and new parents will all appreciate this! This delicious mix just makes breakfast so simple and I’ve not met many people who don’t love a delicious pancake or a waffle!
A jar of this waffle and pancake mix would be just perfect right by itself, but you could also include in a gift basket a few kitchen tools that go along with pancakes and waffles or even a bottle of maple syrup. I know if I received a gift like that, I’d absolutely love it!
Printable Cards for Labels
I created a printable that you can download and print onto card stock or a heavier weight paper. Each sheet contains two labels, so you’ll want to carefully trim each to then wrap around a quart Mason jar. The ends do not meet all the way, but that way the recipient will be able to see just how much they have left in their jar before asking for more!

Each side of the band gives easy to read and follow instruction on how to use the mix for making waffles or pancakes.

Isn’t that a cool idea? Here’s a link to download the labels.
